What the first visit is actually for
The consultation is a diagnostic appointment, not a sales appointment.
Why the imaging happens first
Most dental implant consultations begin with a conversation and end with a quote, with imaging deferred until the patient has committed to treatment. We do the opposite. The CBCT scan is the first clinical step in your first visit, not because we are showing off equipment but because the imaging is what determines whether the conversation that follows is grounded in your actual anatomy or in averages. Bone height to the maxillary sinus, the position of the inferior alveolar nerve, the residual ridge volume at each potential implant site, and the angulation each fixture would need to take, these are the variables that drive every subsequent recommendation, and there is no honest way to discuss treatment options without them in front of both of us on a monitor.
How treatment planning happens at the chair
Once the CBCT data is loaded into our planning software, your doctor walks through what the scan shows in plain language: how much bone is available, what protocols the anatomy supports, where adjunct procedures (a sinus lift, a bone graft, or a redirect to zygomatic implants) would be required, and what the realistic timeline and total cost look like for each path. You leave the consultation with a written treatment plan that reflects what the imaging actually showed, not a placeholder quote that will be revised once x-rays are reviewed. Patients with prior CT scans from other practices are welcome to bring them, we will compare and confirm, but we take a fresh scan as part of the consultation regardless, because planning around imaging more than six months old is poor surgical practice.
Why there is no pressure to commit on the day
We do not pay our patient coordinators or doctors on commission, which is the single structural difference that makes a no-pressure consultation possible. The clinical team's incentive is to recommend the right procedure for your case, including, sometimes, telling a patient they are not a candidate for what they came in for and referring them to a colleague who is better suited. The vast majority of patients book treatment within a week of the consultation, but the decision happens after they have had time to review the written plan, run financing options, and make the call with their family rather than on the way out of the operatory.
